What does a grist mill do? How do old grist mills work?
The Mingus Mill is a working grist mill in Cherokee, North Carolina and was built in 1886. Today, mill workers can demonstrate its sluice, turbine and full process. A short walk off of Highway 441 along Mingus Creek Trail, you can purchase jams, jellies, molasses, lye soap, flour and meal there.
